Floral diversity with payment diversity: How florist Ali uses Payrexx QR Pay

The Thun flower store "Florist Ali" has been around for 35 years. Until now, loyal regular customers could only pay with cash or on account, but thanks to Payrexx QR Pay, they can now also pay for their bouquets, arrangements and wreaths by credit card or via TWINT.

Florentyna Hödl has been the owner and Managing Director of Florist Ali Florentyna Hödl GmbH since January 2024. Her customers have been benefiting from Payrexx QR Pay for almost as long.

With a skillful touch, Florentyna Hödl plucks one flower after another from the pots. Roses, tulips, freesias, violet, orange, white. She holds the plants with her right hand and constantly adds new ones with her left. "The right grip is essential for a beautiful bouquet," she explains and then strides briskly to the back of the store, "if it's not held properly, it won't work." Her apprentice daughter, Noëlle Locher, is actually much better at this, says the manager with a grin, but she is busy with a large arrangement a few meters away. Keeping her fingers firmly around the greenery, Hödl now adds various cut greenery. Step by step, flower by flower, leaf by leaf, a small work of art is created.

The finished arrangement will cost fifty francs. The owner of the flower store Florist Ali doesn't believe in odd amounts. A visit to her shop should be simple and uncomplicated, from ordering to paying. The latter has always been the same over the past 35 years that the traditional Thun store has been in business: "Either cash or on account," summarizes Hödl. A model that simply no longer worked in an increasingly digital age, in which fewer and fewer people have notes or coins in their pockets.

A fast and appreciated payment solution

A payment solution was needed, something uncomplicated and simple that would suit the business of the young owner, who only took over the store from long-time owner Stefan Ali in January 2024. So Hödl's father, who is always helping his daughter with digital matters, contacted Payrexx AG. A company from the same city, he thought, and arranged a consultation without further ado. And on the agreed day, Mr. Hödl dropped by the Payrexx office - even though the appointment had actually been made online. In keeping with the family's mentality, direct and personal, without unnecessary detours.

On the glass table in front of Florentyna Hödl's checkout today is a display with a purple background and delicate flower drawings, a simple QR code in the middle and the words: scan + pay above it. "Our customers really appreciate the fact that we offer Payrexx," explains the florist and begins to cut the ends of her bouquet with secateurs. Her visitors are particularly impressed by the simplicity and speed. The payment process using Payrexx QR Pay works just as quickly as the stems are snipped off.

"Nowadays, everyone is used to working and paying with their smartphone. You always have it with you, all you have to do is hold it up, scan the code - and bang, you're done!" - Florentyna Hödl

With credit card or TWINT

Added to this is the variety of payment methods: Hödl's customers can not only pay by credit card, but the TWINT payment method, which is particularly popular in Switzerland, is also integrated into the Payrexx tool. The fact that there is now a TWINT sticker on the front door alone is an argument for many passers-by to shop at her store. Hödel's store is centrally located on the edge of Thun's old town and therefore attracts not only her loyal regular customers, but also pedestrians.

As a new store owner, Florentyna Hödl also focuses on other points. For example, that working with Payrexx is pleasant - "no detours, no waiting on hold, I can just call" - or that creating a QR code works intuitively and quickly. "And, what is also particularly important to me," she adds, placing the finished bouquet in the vase until it is collected, "we don't need a card reader and only have low transaction fees. Payrexx is also a great offer in terms of price."

The team is small: in addition to Florentyna Hödl, trainee Noëlle Locher (left) and former owner
Stefan Ali also work in the flower store. Hödl's parents also help out from time to time.

Discover Payrexx QR Pay and benefit

Bouquets of flowers and flower arrangements cover only a tiny proportion of all the goods that merchants can sell using Payrexx QR Pay. The payment solution is as flexible as it is versatile, has the latest security standards and can also be easily integrated into vending machines thanks to the API created by Payrexx. The tool has not only won over Florentyna Hödl, but also countless Swiss companies.
